Grace Film Festival: July Official Selections

Here is the list of official selections and screening times for films showing on July 25th.  All films will screen at Grace Lutheran, 3201 Ulloa St, San Francisco, CA.

Saturday, July 25, 2015 6-8pm

Love in the City (4:20) Emanuele Michetti - USA
In a big city where everything moves too fast and everyone is too busy, there is no time to relax. How can relationships evolve?




3:00 PM (13:41) hongyi cao-USA
This is a story about two young lovers who want to get married three months after their first sight. It is supposed to be a sweet beginning of love. However, after they live together, they have some conflicts. They turn to find help from a psychologist. An interesting story begins.​

On Flying Water (2:06) Dominique Monfery - France
This film is a metaphore of life, with drops born at dawn and dying at sunrise. the drops are personalized, a visual metaphor of human and animal's life. they all fight, die, win, etc. but they are treated as animals or any other characters.

The Gospel of Jon (9:20) David Goehring - USA
On the heels of deciding to become a Christian, Jon and his girlfriend start having some trouble. Soon, Jon finds that this decision will affect his relationship with all his friends. He questions whether he can actually follow through with it, until he learns something that changes the way he views faith and gives him hope for the future.

A Map of the Heart (36:12) Muzhgan Rasul & Lisa Herndon - US
A Map Of My Heart, a documentary by Muzhgan Rasul & Lisa Herndon, is the story of Ayesha Akhtar, a 25-year-old Bengali American Muslim, who is torn between her traditional Bengali parents and her American boyfriend. To help find answers and to challenge the gender inequalities she believes are in her religion and culture, Ayesha starts a photography project The Burqa Project that she is keeping a big secret from her parents. She asks Muslim and non-Muslim men to wear a burqa for a day and photographs them as they go about their daily lives.  

Finding Gondal (52) Morgan RAUSCENT - France
A documentary about the Reverend Patrick Bronte and how a series of tragedies helped instill a love for the arts in his three remaining daughters; Charlotte, Emily and Anne.

Grace Film Festival: May 2015 Official Selections








Watt Town : Holy songs from Jamaica (46) STEPHANE DELPHIN - Jamaca/France
Mid 19th century, a spiritual revolution breeds a new religion : The Zion Reival : appeared nearly one century before Rastafari, that black jamaicains embraced because African cosmology and Christian Baptist corpus could be blent. Still nowadays, 3 times a year, a Revival pilgrimage happens in Watt Town, St Ann.

Cotton Candy (16:31) Karol Kołodziński -  Poland
What if you could influence the mind of younger you and make him choose differently? Marcel goes on a meeting with his girlfriend Alice. On his way he meets strange girls from his past. Can those circumstances change his attitude towards his present relationship?

Intrinsic Moral Evil (10:45) Harm Weistra - Netherlands
Intrinsic Moral Evil seems to be a tale of identity and coming of age. But above all, the three dancers play with the viewer’s perception and expectations. The layered story gradually develops; revealing its last secrets just before the end credits start. Inviting the audience to make its own interpretation.

I Never Said I Wasn't Happy (38:4) Sara Peak Convery - USA
Filmmaker and artist explores the implications of her parents' conflicted marriage.




The Martyr (10) Darren Langlands - UK
MI5 Agent Laura Kent explains her actions to an internal inquiry in the aftermath of a major terrorism incident.



THE WORLD IT IS.... (1:57:05) BISWAJEET BORA - India
The film is set in Mumbai, tells the story of ever growing human detachment with nature and how an urban family gets trapped in the concrete jungles of a metropolis. It’s a deep contrast between the most populous city of India, Mumbai and the natural beauty of Assam, this film is a satire on the mechanical and fame-driven lives of people of Mumbai.

to be or not to be? (1:01:00) a film from Kazakhstan
 Takhir Umarov is a performer of the leading role, student of the ‘’ARDI’’ Rehabilitation center (Association of Parents of Disabled Children). In real life he dreams to become an actor. His diagnosis is Cerebral palsy. In addition, he is wheelchair-bound and stammers. Takhir does not have chances to realize the dream practically. All roles of this film are performed by young people with disabilities. Every second of their lives is given to them by incredible struggle, which enforces them to put a question for themselves: “To be or not to be”?

Documentary on Bayard Rustin, best-remembered as the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington.

Animated film with coloured clay on top of back-lit glass, a picture of the hardness of society and a positive message to all about the power of the Cross and the hope, love, and light of Christ Jesus. With the incredible musical talent of Kurtis Blow Walker Hip Hop legend and minister of the Gospel.

Any Man's Pryce (8:58)
Gifted pickpocket Christopher Pryce's life is changed forever when he finds a Bible in the pocket of one of the people he tried to rob. Every Man's Pryce is a unique story of redemption and transformation that will leave you with a new perspective. This film is written, directed and edited by fourteen-year-old Josiah Stendel.

Umudugudu! Rawanda 20 Years On (36)
Rwanda, twenty years on: former genocide killers and survivors live together once again in former or newly built umudugudus (villages). Haunted by their past and fearing an uncertain future, how is life together, when your neighbour is the one who killed your family?

Christ Tempted (8:16)
A short film illustrating Christ's forty days in the wilderness where, prior to beginning His earthly ministry, He was tempted by Satan... yet without sin.

Once we Were Slaves (27:00)
The story of an influential event 2000 years ago from the viewpoint of two people who had a unique perspective


The Other F Word (1:04:00)
What does forgiveness really mean? Is it always essential? Or is it sometimes unnecessary, even impossible, to attain? This feature-length documentary explores the meaning of forgiveness, and examines its impact on our relationships and our sense of justice. Through personal stories of forgiveness sought, forgiveness found and forgiveness withheld, the film provides insight into the universal nature of transgressions, and questions whether any of us are truly able to “turn the other cheek.”

Starting Over: A Record of Faith (24:05)
Starting Over: A Record of Faith, is a short documentary about a former drug addict, who found salvation while staying at Elmwood state prison on drug related charges. After her release, she had a miraculous transformation of character where she at the age of 54 she obtained her very first job and began to give back to the community working with developmentally disabled well with recovery centers such as Teen Challenge. However, her life takes a drastic turn when she learns that she has to go back to prison two years later as a result of the Federal government seeking to prosecute her for the same crime that landed her in Elmwood. The story is a record of her faith as she copes with the sudden change of events and what this change will mean for her life.
